The Archaeology of Lincoln, RI

BVHS, 1873 Old Louisquissett Pike, Lincoln, RI

Sunday, October 18, 2:00 p.m. Free event.

People have lived in Lincoln for thousands of years, and this history survives, in bits and pieces, underneath the built-up landscape and the remaining open spaces. Join State Archaeologist Charlotte Taylor for a look below ground at the archaeological sites of the town. From Native American jasper quarrying to more recent limestone quarrying, from the workshops of Native people to historic industrial sites, and more, the archaeology of Lincoln has fascinating stories to tell!

Charlotte Taylor at BVHS

Charlotte Taylor works for the Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission, reviewing every federal and state project (and more) in Rhode Island to make sure significant archaeological sites aren’t bulldozed during construction. She also maintains the records of all the known archaeological sites in Rhode Island, over a hundred of which are located in Lincoln.
