Mentor Program
Have you ever wanted to be a part of the high school experience? Members of the BVHS have been asked by Lincoln High School to take part in one of the students’ activities. As a part of their academic requirements, all graduating students must complete a portfolio of their time at school. In addition, during a semester-long class, each student must create an exhibition, which is a formal presentation of a research project. Students choose an area of personal interest to research, work with a mentor who will assist and provide insight, develop a meaningful core question, and present their findings both orally and in writing.
LHS is seeking mentors to participate in this activity. BVHS treasurer and former history teacher Peter Moreau is our liaison for this project “In the school's guidelines”; Moreau informs us “a mentor is defined as a caring adult who has knowledge and skills in a particular area. The mentor is a person who is interested in sharing what he/she knows in order to help guide the student in the exhibition process”. The project takes the student a semester to finish. However, the time needed for mentoring is only several hours, at your convenience. “Although BVHS was approached to assist in history-related projects”, adds Moreau, “LHS would be interested in learning about any specialty you might have in addition to local history and lore”.
BVHS would like to develop a list of people who are willing to serve as mentors including their areas of expertise. If you have questions, please contact Peter Moreau, at plmoreau1@cox.net or 401-333-1173.
